When I work with a camera I am reminded that I am an artist interpreting a moment. Something that will be cherished now and perhaps, long after I’m gone. I want people to be intrigued by every style of photography that I do. I want them to remember the experience as much as they cherish the portrait.
I begin a session by asking a lot of questions with my subject and observing their body language. If it’s not a person then I observe the style of a product, taking a chance to show a different side to that person, thing or idea. Often times people don’t realize their uniqueness, which is what makes this medium so rewarding!
I know a portrait is done when I see the image that matches the words and descriptions they expressed, but more importantly, what they showed me in their honesty at that moment in time. It’s just like reading a well written book when I see the image that goes with the soul of the person.
When people see my work, I'd like them to consider who or what the person or object is in the photograph. How is it presented in a way that is perhaps unique to our world? How does it make you feel?
I will always have a passion for photography and painting. I have learned to appreciate it even more as I’ve grown from student to teacher. I have experimented with many different techniques in art and photography but no matter what, I’ve learned that everything has a soul and it’s up to the artist to interpret that in a unique and honest way.
