My paintings combine the inner focus of meditation with the outward movement of dance. The initial stages involve an energetic build up of texture and color abstraction, often starting with collage papers, embedded text and acrylic mediums to animate the surface before applying fluid acrylics, inks and gesso.
A story line emerges at some point, with images recognizable as similar to the "real" world, but following the rules of an imaginal reality. Birds, figures and elements of nature are revealed and start to interconnect in unexpected ways.
The surface is mystical, soft edged, and dreamy with fluid movement and organic shapes. Pigment is layered on and abstract color shapes and lines are added to give depth and interest, so that viewers will be caught up in a world of their own imagination, one of personal connection where they will want to stay a while.
